[광주=뉴시스]김혜인 기자 = 광주 지역 환경단체가코로나19 감염 확산에 따른 일회용품 사용 증가를 우려하며,
철저한 관리를 통해 다회용기가 오히려 감염 위험으로부터 안전할 수 있다고 주장했다.
광주환경운동연합은 올해 9월부터 지난달까지 한달간 광주 지역 커피전문점·패스트푸드 판매점 135곳의 일회용품 사용 실태를 조사한 결과를 17일 발표했다.
조사 결과 135개 매장 중 57%에 달하는 77곳이 일회용 컵을 사용했다.
고객이 다회용컵·텀블러 음료 제공을 요청해도 거부하는 사례도 있었다. 고객이 다회용 컵을 요구해도 일회용 컵을 제공한 곳은 21곳(15.5%)이었다.
텀블러에 음료를 제공하지 않겠다고 거부한 매장은 10곳(7.4%)이었다.
종이 빨대 사용도 저조했다. 플라스틱 빨대를 이용하는 매장은 126곳(93.3%)인 반면, 종이 빨대 이용 매장은 8곳(5.9%)에 그쳤다.
단체는 미국국립보건원 연구결과를 근거로 "코로나19 바이러스는 플라스틱 표면에 최대 3일간 생존한다. 플라스틱이 감염 원인이 될 수 있다"고 주장했다.
또 "일회용 빨대의 소재인 플라스틱은 생산·처리 과정에서 온실가스 등 유해성분을 배출한다. 분해 시 500년 이상이 소요, 해양쓰레기 등 환경오염의 주범이
되기도 한다"고 덧붙였다.
그러면서 "다회용기를 세제로 세척하고 잘 말려 사용할 경우 감염 가능성은 낮다"며 "일회용기 사용을 허용할 것이 아니라, 다회용기를 철저히 소독하도록
감독해 위생을 강화해야 한다"고 거듭 강조했다.
한편, 정부는 코로나19 예방을 위해 올해 2월부터 식품접객업소 내 일회용 플라스틱 컵 사용금지 규제를 일부 완화했다. 이에 따라 손님이 원할 경우
각 매장에선 일회용 컵 등을 제공할 수 있다.
